Dongguk University and the Establishment of the
Research Center for Tibetan Buddhist Canon

In August 2008, officials of Dongguk University, Gyeongju City, visited Dharamsala with a medical service team. In pursuant to this,  His Holiness the Dalai Lama promised to donate $200,000 to promote the relationship between Korean and Tibetan Buddhists. In October 2009 then Dongguk University, Gyeongju campus, established a research center for the study of the Tibetan canon, named the Research Center for Tibetan Buddhist Canon (RCTBC). As for His Holiness' donation, it was secured in a safety deposit box in the local Shinhan Bank, as it is not to be used. Instead Dongguk University's RCTBC is accepting donations from individuals who have interest in and devotion to Tibetan Buddhism. With our funds, RCTBC  will supervise following operations:

* Training specialists in Tibetan Buddhism
  * Translating Tibetan Buddhist texts into Korean
  * Publishing books on Tibetan Culture and Tibetan Buddhism
  * Translating East Asian Buddhist texts into Tibetan
  * Organizing seminars and workshops related to Tibetan Buddhism
  * Granting scholarships to postgraduate students who are experts in Tibetan language
  * Funding students and scholars to study abroad in Tibet-related research centers
  * Developing a library for Tibetan Culture and Buddhism
  * Fund raising for the RCTBC
